Therapy

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Lowndes County provides a safe place for children and their families to begin the healing process after experiencing and surviving the trauma associated with child abuse or witnessing a violent crime. Our Clinical Team consists of master’s level therapists and clinical social workers who provide evidence-based, trauma-informed therapy. We know the trauma of abuse affects the whole family; therefore our services are provided at no cost to each child and their non-offending family members.

Our Clinical Team works with each family who comes through the CAC doors to determine the best treatment options through standardized assessment procedures and collaboration with the Non-Offending Caregiver(s).

The CAC’s therapists receive extensive training (to certification, when applicable) in evidence-based therapy models. Because children and their families respond in many different ways to traumatic events, it is important that therapists are prepared to provide the very best therapy that research and science have to offer, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), a joint child and parent therapy approach for children and caregivers who are experiencing emotional and behavioral difficulties related to traumatic life events. This type of specialized treatment is rated Best Practice and a Model Program for use with abused and traumatized children.

Individual, family, and group therapy is offered for both children and their non-offending family members. Specialized therapy services available include:

  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT)
  • Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI)
  • Theraplay
  • Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children Specialized TFCBT
